e-Signature
E-signature is the key application of secure communications in topen network systems, such as Internet. The presentation gives a short introduction to the technological principles of its operation, indicating the eight fundamental steps of creating an electronic signature as well as encoding and decoding a message. In addition, the slides contain a detailed overview of the regulations relating to e-signatures, i.e. the European Directive on e-Signature and its national transpositions. Finally, the presentation lists the practical applications of e-signature, such as e-archiving, digital time stamping, etc.
e-Payment
e-Payment is the big challenge for the 21st century in Europe. The presentation gives account of the Single European Payment Area enabling all European citizens to carry out payments in the European Member States electronically according to uniform rules and procedures. To make this possible, the European Commission and the European banking industry joined forces and has worked together towards the e-Payment Directive which creates the necessary legal framework for the detailed rules and procedures laid down by the European Payment Council. Besides this setting, the slides also present the basic principles of the e-Payment Directive (D+3, trasnferable account, etc.) and gives practical examples of its usability.
e-Identification
Domain names identify your world in the Internet - but how can you manage a unified system of addresses in a non-unified, decentralised world? The presentation gives a comprehensive overview of the global management of the generic top level domains, starting from the Internet Corporation of Assigned Names and Numbers to the national registries. Moreover, the legal disputes arising from the fraudulent uses of domain names are thoroughly dealt with, e.g. reverse domain name hijacking. In this regard, the practical application of the Uniform Dispute Resolution Procedure is displayed, using live examples of domain name disputes from the WIPO Arbitration Panel. Finally, the slides present the management of the .eu domain as well as the arbitration procedure pursuant to the relevant EC regulations.
